About the Bursary Provider
The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality is situated in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.
It was formed in 2000 and gained metropolitan status in 2011.
It includes Bhisho, King William’s Town, East London, Zwelitsha, and Mdantsane.
The municipality aims to support students within its jurisdiction by providing financial assistance to those pursuing undergraduate qualifications in critical fields.
Eligibility Requirements for the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality Bursary
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be between the ages of 14 and 35 years old.
- Permanently reside within Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.
- Be currently in Matric, have completed Matric, or hold an NCV Level 4 Certificate.
- Be studying or intending to study an undergraduate qualification in the listed fields at a recognized and accredited South African tertiary institution.
- Students with Matric must have achieved:
- A minimum “C” symbol (60-69%) for Mathematics, Accounting, and Physical Science.
- A minimum “D” symbol (50-59%) for English.
- Students with an NCV Level 4 Certificate must have passed Mathematics.
- Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
- Preference will be given to students from underprivileged backgrounds.

Step 2: You may also collect an application form from the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality’s Community Support Centers or Youth Advisory Centers at the following locations:

Step 3: Submit the completed form along with certified copies of the following supporting documents:
- ID document
- Matric latest results, Matric certificate, or NCV Level 4 Certificate
- Full academic record/transcripts, including most recent results (if applicable)
- Letter of acceptance from a tertiary institution (on official letterhead)
- Brief motivational letter
- Proof of residence within Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality or a letter from the ward councillor
- Proof of household income (payslips/affidavit/proof of SASSA grant or pension)
