Eligibility Requirements for the SANRAL Bursary
As an applicant, you must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be 35 years old or younger.
- Be in Matric or have completed Matric.
- Be studying or accepted for full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies in one of the listed fields.
- Be enrolled or accepted at a recognized public tertiary institution in South Africa (private institutions are not covered).
- Meet the academic requirements:
- Matric students: Minimum 70% average.
- University students: Minimum 60% average.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Not be a recipient of another bursary.
- Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Supporting Documents (compulsory):
- Certified copy of ID document or birth certificate.
- Certified copy of Matric term 1 and 2 results (if in Matric).
- Certified copy of full academic record on institution letterhead (if in university).
- Certified copy of proof of tertiary registration.
- A one-page motivational letter explaining why you should receive the bursary.
- Certified copies of parents’ or guardians’ ID documents.
- Certified copies of parents’ or guardians’ proof of income (recent payslips, affidavit if unemployed or self-employed, not older than 3 months).
- Proof of residence (municipal water and electricity bill).
