Funding Amount: Determined by W&RSETA based on the availability of funds. Funding covers tuition, books, stationery, and an incidental/student allowance.

About the Bursary Provider

The W&RSETA provides funding opportunities to support education and skills development in the wholesale and retail sectors. 

This bursary aims to address sectoral priority occupations and interventions (HTFVs) and emerging occupations identified in the Sector Skills Plan. 

The bursary is available to students who are pursuing relevant retail-related qualifications in accredited institutions.

W&RSETA Bursary Eligibility Requirements

All applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. South African citizen (below 35 years old if unemployed)
  2. Accepted or registered with an accredited institution for the listed study fields
  3. Preference given to “missing middle” students with parental income between R350,000 and R600,000

How to Apply

Applications must be made online via the W&RSETA stakeholder portal: www.wrseta.org.za

Required documents for application:

  • Proof of institutional registration
  • Proof of program accreditation with the relevant quality assurance body

Additional application details:

  • Applications must be submitted through qualifying entities (TVETs, HET institutions, bursary administrators, W&RSETA levy-paying entities, and retail chairs)
  • W&RSETA provincial offices will provide guidance for first-time applicants
  • Applications from individual students will not be accepted
  • Upon approval, an Award Letter will be issued by 15 April 2025
  • Contracts will be signed upon successful bursar registration
