About the Bursary Provider
Richards Bay Minerals (RBM), a South African subsidiary of Rio Tinto Group, mines titanium dioxide from dunes near Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.
Established in 1976, RBM is owned by Rio Tinto (74%), Blue Horizon Investments (24%), and its employees (2%).
Rio Tinto, a global mining leader, supports South African students through bursaries to develop a skilled workforce.
Eligibility Requirements for this bursary
To apply for this bursary, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Have completed Matric with good results
- Be studying or intending to study full-time in one of the specified fields
- Be enrolled or accepted at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
- Demonstrate financial need, in line with NSFAS guidelines
- Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply
How to Apply

Applicants must submit the following compulsory supporting documents:
- Certified copy of ID document (not older than 3 months)
- Certified copy of Matric certificate or statement of results (not older than 3 months)
- Full tertiary academic record (if currently studying, on institution’s letterhead)
- Proof of bank account
- Proof of university acceptance (on the institution’s letterhead)
- Certified copies of parents’ or guardians’ ID documents (if applying on behalf of the student)
