About the Bursary Provider

The Eastern Cape Provincial Treasury was established to provide strategic and technical leadership in managing and using financial resources for the benefit of the province. 

The department aims to improve efficiency in financial accounting, economic policy research, financial information systems, and financial management. 

The bursary scheme supports these core disciplines to enhance service delivery and develop skilled professionals within the sector.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants will have to meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Must be a South African citizen
  2. Must reside within the Eastern Cape province
  3. Must have completed Matric (NSC) with admission to a National Diploma/ Bachelor Degree
  4. Must have achieved the following minimum results in Matric:
    • Level 5 for English Home Language OR Level 4 for English First Additional Language
    • Level 5 for Mathematics OR Level 6 for Mathematics Literacy
    • Level 6 for Accounting
    • Level 6 for Economics
  5. Must be studying towards an undergraduate degree or national diploma (NQF level 6 or 7 with a minimum of 360 credits), within one of the eligible fields
  6. Must be studying full-time at a public tertiary institution in South Africa
  7. Must be in financial need with a combined household income of NOT more than R378 765 per year
  8. Preference will be given to students living with disabilities who have not been represented in previous awards

Eligible students can apply by submitting the following documents (all certified copies):

  1. Application letter 
  2. South African ID document
  3. Matric certificate and final results
  4. Proof of admission from your institution for the 2023 academic year
  5. Parents or guardians’ proof of income
  6. Death certificate (if applicable) and an affidavit confirming the guardian
  7. Proof of residence
  8. Proof of disability (if applicable)
