About the Bursary Provider

The Vhembe District Municipality, based in the Limpopo province, was established in 2000 and has its headquarters in Thohoyandou. 

It consists of four local municipalities: Mutale, Musina, Makhado, and Thulamela. 

The district covers over 21,000 km² and has a population exceeding 1.1 million residents, with the majority speaking TshiVenda, followed by Xitsonga and Northern Sotho. 

The municipality includes areas that were part of the former Venda Bantustan and districts such as Hlanganani and Malamulele.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Vhembe District Municipality Mayoral Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a South African citizen.
  2. Have completed Matric.
  3. Reside within the Vhembe District Municipality area in Limpopo province.
  4. Be studying or intend to study within one of the eligible fields listed above.
  5. Be enrolled or intend to enroll at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution within the district.
  6. Be from a disadvantaged background.

  2. Collect application forms from local municipalities in Musina, Makhado, Thulamela, and Collins Chabane.
  3. Prepare the following supporting documents (certified copies where applicable):

    • Matric final results/certificate
    • Full academic record (if currently studying)
    • Proof of acceptance/provisional acceptance at a tertiary institution
    • Parents or guardians’ ID documents
